Where Are My Photos?

Where did my photos go? This is one of the most common questions that we hear in beginning editing classes. That’s one of the many reasons why we created the Digital Assets Management (DAM) workshop.

Whether you are working to become a professional photographer or you simply want to catalog your personal pictures, understanding the basics of file management will help keep you organized so you never again have to ask “Where are my photos?”.

The DAM workshop is led by professional wedding and seniors photographer Sarah Shields, who walks students through every stage of cataloging images. Sarah will teach you how to upload photos from your camera or disc and create a file structure that will allow you to find your images quickly and easily.

Shooting an image is just the beginning of a photograph’s journey. After seeing students struggle with some of the ‘next steps’ on the path, we created the DAM workshop. The goal of this workshop is to help students gain a basic understanding of how to import, file, catalog, print and save their images. This process is typically referred to as a workflow.

Creating an editing workflow that works best for you is important. It helps keep you organized and also allows you to process images with speed and efficiency. If you are faced with editing and preparing a large number of photos, consistency is your best friend. This is true whether you are editing images from a wedding that you just shot or if you are bringing together collections of old family photos.

The DAM workshop provides the basic building blocks for creating a workflow that will allow you to take complete control of the editing process. We highly recommend this workshop to any of our students who are interested in learning editing software (Lightroom, Elements or Photoshop). These classes move quickly, and the lessons that you learn in the DAM workshop will keep you from falling behind as the instructor introduces some of the basics concepts that are the foundation of catalog and workflow management.

You can read more about the DAM workshop on our website.

Learn Lightroom and Turn Images From Good to Great

August 20th, 2012 No comments

We get asked frequently “What is Lightroom, and why should I learn how to edit my photos?” The answer is that whether you are a professional, a hobbyist, or just want to get memorable shots of your family, Lightroom can help you get the most out of your images. Using Lightroom, you can organize shoots, create catalogs, quickly manipulate and color correct a large number of photos at once, and even do some pretty extensive editing without having to use the far more expensive Photoshop software.

IPC’s Adobe Lightroom Introduction class walks students through the workflow process starting with importing images through to cataloging, saving, printing, and exporting. Students also learn basic editing skills including adjusting exposure and color, skin softening and blemish cover-up, sharpening, noise reduction, and more.

Josh Polk teaches our Lightroom Intro class and has put together a video that provides students with an overview of what he covers. If you are looking to improve your images, this is a class you won’t want to miss. Visit our Lightroom Intro page to register for the next class.

Imagine the perfect wedding shoot…

  • An impeccable destination, outside of French Lick, Indiana. This venue is set in some of the most beautiful countryside in the Midwest, with rolling hills and pastures tucked up against Southern Indiana’s Hoosier National Forest;
  • Your scenic backdrop includes country meadows, an abundance of wildflowers, a covered bridge, a winding river and a rustic barn that will host a fun-filled reception;
  • Trails with overhanging oak, elm and tulip poplars provide a lovely shade canopy with dappled light;
  • A beautiful bride is escorted by a horse drawn carriage, which leads her to the ceremony; and
  • A reception attended by 200 people, including lots of adorable kids, all soaking in the fun of a June evening.

This wedding is portfolio perfect!

As usual, this Wedding Experience is only available to FIVE students.

We keep our hands-on wedding workshop small, so that you spend more time capturing the moment and less time standing around waiting for others get their shot. This workshop is the perfect opportunity to gain the experience and portfolio shots that you need, without having the stress and responsibility of handling the wedding all by yourself.

You will be guided through the day by IPC instructor and professional wedding photographer, Sami-Abu-Rumman. He will share tips and tricks for capturing the perfect wedding pictures – indoors, outdoors, in shade and in sun. You’ll gain insight on how to pose individuals, couples and small groups for wedding portrait sessions. Sami will show you how to best capture those important shots such as the bride and groom getting ready, the cake cutting, the first dance, and the throwing of the bouquet.

And, you will come away with a wedding photo portfolio package that will wow prospective clients.

Visit IPC’s Wedding Experience Workshop page for more information including pricing and pre-requisite requirements.
