The correct use of natural lighting can take a snapshot and turn it into a keepsake portrait. Knowing how to avoid unflattering shadows, make your subject's eyes sparkle, and understanding the different types of natural light, as well as how to use reflectors and diffusers are just a few of the topics covered in this introduction to natural lighting.
The two week natural/outdoor lighting class is perfect for photographers who want to learn to capture images in natural settings and to overcome challenges that outdoor lighting presents including glare, shadows and more. The course covers natural vs. artificial lighting, how to work with reflectors and scrims, using fill flash and techniques for shooting without a flash.
- Week #1 (Outdoor location) - Introduction to portrait lighting, Techniques and basic principles, Discussion of lighting techniques, Types of lighting and lighting sources
- Week #2 (Outdoor location) - Reflectors and scrims, Outdoor lighting – natural vs. artificial, Fill flash, Without a flash
This is a second level course. Students must have taken the Fundamentals of Photography class, or its equivalent, and have a working knowledge of their camera.
Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Photography
Required Equipment: DSLR Camera (Digital Single Lens Reflex)
Suggested equipment: Reflectors, speedlight flash (fill flash is taught, so a speedlight is highly recommened), two full sets of batteries for your flash, camera and speedlight manuals
